Karl Lagerfeld Builds A Greek Temple for Chanel's 2018 Resort Presentation

Chanel‘s 2018 resort collection, “La Modernité de l’Antiquité,” reaches back to ancient Greece for divine inspiration. To set the atmosphere, Karl Lagerfeld recreated an Ionic temple complete with columns and a jagged rock base. The garments shown are a cross between pre-Classical Greek styles and vintage 1950s Chanel. We see long-lined dresses inspired by red and black figure pottery and draped goddess-like gowns. Each model wore a royal headpiece along with lace-up gladiator sandals which seem to be making a comeback this season. The A-line silhouettes reference sculptures of Greek deities Venus and Hera giving off a matronly but sophisticated appearance. -VIA
